Nearly 200 people came to LIN Second Chance Store

The last customers at Second Chance Store visited us when they had just finished their shift. Since we ran out of shopping bags donated by Asian Tigers, they had to use plastic bags. However, all of them were happy because they could find great items at reasonable price.

The second sales of LIN Second Chance Store on November 10, 2012 attracted nearly 200 people. The unexpected number of customers turned our small temporary store into a super crowded space during the three hours in operation, from 9 to 12am.

Just like last time, many of visitors were staff, volunteers and beneficiaries from local NPOs in HCMC. One of the first customers to arrive was seour Minh Tam, manager at Hoa Hong (Rose) Shelter, home to orphans and abandoned kids from 4 to 12 years old. She bought 9 items, most of them were children clothes to give to the kids at the shelter. “With only 45,000 VND (about US $2), I could buy up to 9 good quality items at very cheap price. I am very happy to shop here and I will definitely come back next time,” said seour Minh Tam.

For this sale, LIN received roughly 1.000 items from donors, 300 of which were brand new clothing products from Mariposa. The items on sale included clothes, shoes, handbags, accessories, books,…at the lowest price of 5,000 VND (US $0.25) and highest of 200,000 VND (US $10)/item. The sales on November 10 topped 18 million VND (US $900), with 70-80% items sold.

The outcome was made possible thanks to the support of all customers and the generous donation of our wonderful sponsors. The LIN team truly appreciates Out-2 Studio, Asian Tigers and Mariposa for their support. We would also like to thank those who came to the store and helped to spread the word about Second Chance Store, and all the wonderful volunteers.

Second Chance Store is an initiative of LIN to provide the HCMC community with a way to effectively channel good quality used items to local nonprofit organizations and their beneficiaries. We continue to receive donation and open the store once a month. All proceeds from our sales will cover operating costs and any additional amount will be invested into LIN’s community programs supporting local not-for-profit and charity organizations.
